FAQ
1. What are the differences between hand-poked and machine tattoos?
When it comes to hand-poked tattoos, I use a tattoo needle to poke your skin dot by dot. This manual process is relatively slow and gentle compared to machine tattooing. Machines create the same motion as I do, but at a much faster pace, which increases the risk of creating repeated or deeper cuts.
2. Does it hurt and how does it feel like?
-Well, yes, but the discomfort is usually very tolerable. I usually describe the sensation to my clients as similar to eyebrow plucking. It's not usually the pain that makes my clients request a break, but rather the numbness that sets in as they remain still for extended periods of time.
3. Pros & Cons of hand-poked tattoos
- Pros:
This technique creates tattoos on your skin in a gentle way, causing less bleeding and trauma, resulting in a faster healing process.
The procedure is quiet and soothing, often leading to deep conversations.
The delicate details produced are unique and different from machine work.
- Cons:
It takes a longer time to tattoo for obvious reasons.
Compare to machine, if you want something very bold & sharp, hand-poking or simply my style is not suitable to achieve that.
Touch up may be required. To admit, I may miss dots/ shading sometimes which form gaps in lines and minor touch up maybe needed after it is healed.
4. Can I have colours on my tattoo?
- Yes but I only limit my work to very few colours as I am just not a big fan to incorporate colours to my style.
5. Will you ever do machine tattoos?
- Yes & No. I have actually started to do a bit of machine tattoos, but my schedule did not quite motivate me to practice. And compare to machine, I still like hand-poking more, it feels more nature for me. But I may change my mind/ when I get to practice and explore more, I may switch to it, who knows?
